Eva Bellis

Eva Bellis RN, BSN, CCM
Director, Health Checkpoint
“Our goal is to help employees meet their
personal health goals by offering monitoring, nurse wellness coaching,
and health information in their workplace. As nurses, we actively
promote health and wellness.”
Eva Bellis graduated from Alfred University in
1979, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and immediately joined
the staff of the Neuro/geropsychiatric Unit at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Her 16 years at the unit was demanding yet rewarding, as she managed
the challenges of complex patient conditions that required both
medical and psychiatric interventions. She was clinical nurse
leader during her last 5 years on this unit, responsible for
the daily clinical operations of the floor, taking into account
patient issues and staffing needs.
Eva left the neuro/geropsychiatric unit in 1996
to join the recently formed Community Nursing Center, at the University
of Rochester, School of Nursing. At the CNC, she worked on a wide
variety of projects, including helping the Visiting Nurse Service
to develop their mental health program providing home care to the
mentally ill. She also assisted in the development and implementation
of a case management program with a major Health Maintenance
Organization in the Rochester area, focusing on managing the
care of the mentally ill client from time of admission to the
hospital through discharge and transition home. She worked collaboratively
with the clients, and their health care providers, to address
the clients’ needs; the program
had a positive impact on their lives and significantly decreased
readmission rates. In 1999, Eva obtained certification in case
management.
Health promotion and disease prevention were major
parts of Eva’s
practice; bringing them to the workplace seemed both logical
and exciting to her. She piloted a wellness program with several
agencies and organizations in the Rochester area, combining Health
Risk Appraisals, telehealth monitoring and health coaching. The results
were very promising, and Eva presented the program and her preliminary
findings to the conference of the HomMed Partner Network in Las Vegas.
Based on this work, she developed a turnkey manual for Health Checkpoint,
a new line of business dedicated to wellness in companies
and the community. In 2002, Eva became the director of Health Checkpoint.
